The Chief Psychiatrist Standard - Notification of Deaths of People with a Mental Health Condition into SLS outlines expectations in relation to the notification and reporting of a death of a person who was receiving care from public mental health services, or who had contact with public mental health services or a public hospital emergency department presentation for mental health concerns within six months of their death.
Implementation of this Standard will assist in the provision of data and monitoring of trends, which will inform suicide prevention activities (such as the Towards Zero Suicide project and the work of the Suicide Prevention Council) and increase awareness of how services can address and support physical health needs.
