15 June 2023
As a result of recent visits, the following gazettal conditions have been placed on Northgate House (Beachside and Woodland wards) effective 8 June 2023:
- Those with a high level of behaviours of concern due to Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms in Dementia (BPSD) may only be admitted to Northgate House after agreement from the Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) and Head of Unit (HoU) after considering the limitations of the facility’s design and the ability to meet the care needs of a new resident in the context of the care needs of the population of people already resident on the unit.
- That each unit (Beachside and Woodland wards) will have a reduction in maximum capacity in order to provide more space for residents and staff, according to a bed plan agreed by the Chief Psychiatrist.
This will not affect current residents of Northgate House, but some beds will not be filled as routine discharges occur. This plan will create more space for current residents and more space for staff.
The Chief Psychiatrist notes the high quality of the current care delivered to residents by staff members at Northgate House which we know is appreciated by families.
