2 June 2017

Across the public and private mental health system and statutory services, health workers have been getting ready for the commencement of the amended Mental Health Act 2009 on Monday 5 June 2017.

Two training packages are being delivered – one on the changes to the Act which targets everyone who uses the Act. The other training package on Decision-Making Capacity Criteria is for Authorised Mental Health Professionals and Medical Officers.

There has been a great response. Over two months, there were 68 training sessions delivered with over 1000 attendees wanting to know about the amended Act and what it means for treatment, care and service delivery. Attendees have come from all disciplines within the mental health workforce as well as from emergency departments, country areas and the wider workforce including SA Health Executives, General Practitioners and consultants in other specialities.

Training and education will continue over the next six months so anyone interested in organising workplace sessions or attending a session should contact Trevor on 8226 8108 or Dave on 8226 6210.
