The Office of the Chief Psychiatrist (OCP) has placed additional gazettal conditions on James Nash House, the state’s forensic mental health facility.

The main James Nash building has an outdated design, with significant limitations compared to modern facilities. The conditions are intended to provide extra risk mitigations to improve safety for both patients and staff. The new conditions which apply across the older James Nash building are in addition to existing gazettal conditions issued on 11 January 2024 relating to the Birdwood Ward, which remain in place.

In placing these conditions, our Office recognises the work undertaken by the staff of James Nash House, and the operator Northern Adelaide Local Health Network, to address concerns through building works and putting in place extra procedures to compensate for the many building design limitations.
